Scholarships For Female College Students

Since 1980 the number of females attending college has steadily increased. In fact, more women attend college than men now; according to 2008 enrollment statistics the ratio of men to women attending college was 43.6 : 56.4.

While the number of females attending college has increased, the number of females in highly dominated male careers is still low. This is why there are many resources for female college students to get funding and help with specific study areas. Below are a few of the departments that scholarships are available in.

General

 

 

AAUW LEW WILLIAMS SCHOLARSHIP AND LEILA SULKES SCHOLARSHIP

Amount: $2,000 to two lucky scholarship applicants to be used in the upcoming school year.

Eligible:

  • Female, 25 years or older.
  • Must be a resident of one of the following areas: Colts Neck, Englishtown, Farmingdale, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Howell, Manalapan, Marlboro, Morganville
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program, having already completed 60 credits. Or, enrolled in a Master’s degree program and having completed 6 credits.
  • An average “B” grade GPA

HACKETT FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Amount: $1,000

Eligible:

  • Students that have graduated from a high school in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
  • Applicants must be attending an accredited college, university, or skilled trade school.
  • Preference is given to women of color.

THE CHESAPEAKE ENERGY SCHOLARSHIP

Amount: $20,000

Eligible:

  • Applicants must be a graduating senior of an eligible Dallas Independent School District high school.
  • Must be female, or of a minority group.
  • Applicants must be active members of Education is Freedom.
  • Students must have taken the SAT or ACT

CHICANA/LATINA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Amount: $1,500

Eligible:

  • Applicants must be women of Chicana/Latina heritage.
  • Students must be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or community college in one of the listed Northern California counties (see site for list).
  • Must be a resident of Northern California.
  • Applicants must commit to attend the CLF Leadership Institute and volunteer 10 hours for CLF.

CURRY AWARD FOR GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN

Established by Eleanor Williams curry, an active civic leader. This scholarship rewards young women who are self-motivated, but need financial support. It can also be for those that have dropped out of school and are re-entering despite considerable circumstances.

Amount: $1,000

Eligible:

  • Women age 18 to 26
  • GPA of at least 3.3
  • Applicants must:
    • have demonstrated financial hardship
    • currently reside in San Mateo County
    • plan to enroll in, or be currently enrolled in a 2 or 4 year college as a full time student
    • be a United States citizen

DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH MINISTRY INTL. SCHOLARSHIP

ENGINEERING AND TECHNICAL SCIENCE ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

The Alpha Omega Epsilon National Foundation is all about promoting academic excellence. This scholarship was created to help promote women who share high standards in character, conduct, integrity, academic achievement and scholastic aptitude, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.

Amount: $500 – $2,000

Eligible:

  • Applicants must be female and majoring in engineering or technical science.
  • GPA must be a 3.0 or higher.
  • Applicant must be attending an ABET-accredited program.
  • No previous recipients can apply.

DAWN BLACKLEDGE SCHOLARSHIP

Dawn Blackledge is the president of Aerostar Environmental Services, Inc. She established the scholarship to help support higher education for those in the College of Computing, Engineering, and Construction.

Amount: $2,400

Eligible:

  • Applicants must meet admission requirements and be accepted to the University of North Florida.
  • Students must be enrolled in the College of Computing, Engineering & Construction.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
  • Applicants must be an active member of the UNF Student Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers.
  • Preference is given to returning students, or non-traditional students, and those that have demonstrated financial need.

APS/IBM RESEARCH INTERNSHIP FOR UNDERGRADUATE WOMEN

This  program was created for the purpose of encouraging female students to pursue graduate studies in science and engineering.

Amount: A salaried position at one of three IBM research locations.

Eligible:

  • Female students with a sophomore or junior status.
  • Applicants must have a major of chemistry, physics, materials science or engineering, chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering, or biology.
  • A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • An official transcript proving current GPA standing.

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF WOMEN ACCOUNTANTS

During her life Dr. Anita Borg believed that technology affected all aspects of the economy, politics, and our social and personal lives. She was a rebel with a cause and fought to make sure that technology’s impact would be a positive one on the world. It is because of her vision that the Institute for Women and Technology was formed, and why this scholarship bears her name today.

Amount: $10,000

Eligible:

  • Applicants must be female and currently enrolled in college.
  • They must already be accepted, or intend to be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Students must keep a strong academic record.
  • Students must also exemplify leadership and passion for increasing the involvement of women in computer sciences.

GAMERS IN REAL LIFE (GIRL) GAME DESIGN COMPETITION SCHOLARSHIP

Amount: $10,000

WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP

In a study done at colleges and universities across the country in 2012, it was found that women earned 57% of undergraduate degrees in the U.S., but only 18% of the Computer Science and Information Science degrees awarded were awarded to women. In an attempt to encourage more women to pursue education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, Buildium offers the following scholarship every semester.

Amount: $2,500

  • Students must be attending an accredited public or private United States university.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a Product Design, Interaction Design, User Experience Design, Engineering, or Computer Science degree program.
