How to Become an IT Specialist

In order to get an IT job, you will need an Associate’s Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree or certificate in Information Technologies or Computer Sciences.  As the industry grows, employers may be more inclined to require higher levels of training than they have in the past to stay competitive.  Although some employers may make exceptions to this, it is best to obtain an information technology degree to ensure your position.

You will also need a variety of certifications. Although not all employers will require these, certifications are a great way to communicate your expertise to employers.     • Entry-level IT jobs start at approximately $47-50k for the first five years.
    • Mid-level IT specialists with 5-10 years of experience often have an annual salary of $60-$70k.
