Our Ranking Methodology

We used a straightforward formula to rank the schools on this list. This formula operates on only two statistics: yearly tuition rate and graduation rate. The public institutions on this list charge different rates for in-state students and non-resident students. We only considered the in-state tuition rate when it came time to rank these institutions. To ascertain each school’s final rating, we took its yearly tuition rate and added a multiplier which was equivalent to the percentage of students who enrolled but did not graduate. Example: School ABC has a yearly tuition rate of $20,000 and a graduation rate of 60%. Its rating would be 28,000 (20,000 x 140%). Schools with lower ratings have better rankings on our list than schools with higher ratings.
