Our Ranking Methodology

We ranked the schools on this list using our proprietary formula. Our formula considers two vital statistics: each school’s yearly tuition rate and graduation rate. Public institutions usually have higher tuition rates for non-resident students than they do for resident students. If this is the case for a specific school, we only look at the in-state tuition rate. To come up with each school’s rating, we took the yearly tuition rate and added a multiplier that is equal to the percentage of enrolled students who didn’t graduate. E.g.: University A has yearly tuition of $20,000 and a graduate rate of 60%. Its rating would be 28,000 (20,000 x 140%). Lower ratings are an indicator of a higher-quality institution.
