Choosing Your Houston-based MBA Program:
Texas A&M University – Mays Business School
Texas A&M first opened in 1876 and was the first public institution of higher learning. It has grown to become a highly regarded university for research. The university is conveniently located in the Houston-Dallas-Austin “triangle” just two hours from 26 of the state’s 28 million residents. The school has a main campus located in College Station, where 69,000 students take classes and reside. There are numerous other locations across Texas.
Student attendees are considered “Aggies”; they have their own culture and even endearing terminology.

University of Houston – Downtown
In 1974, South Texas Junior College sold their assets and reopened as the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD). In the early years, the college was limited in its offerings; its first four-year degree was a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice. The cost back then was just $4 per credit hour.
As time went on, the University began offering a wider range of classes and degrees. In the 1990s the college saw serious growth and by 2007 the enrollment grew to 11,793 students. In January 2012, UHD announced that they had enrolled their first class of MBA students in their College of Business. Today they offer over 40 different bachelor’s degrees and nine different master’s degree programs.
The University has a student body of over 14,400 and has over 39,000 alumni. It is located in beautiful downtown Houston, making it a convenient option for those that work or reside in the Houston area.

Rice University – Jones Graduate School of Business
The Rice Institute was originally chartered on May 18, 1891, as the William Marsh Rice Institute for the Advancement of literature, Science, and Art. Marsh opened the Institute as a thank you to the city of Houston, where he has a long and successful career. The term of the charter stated that only after Rice’s death would the build-out of the school begin.
In September 1912, the Rice Institute finally opened its door to students. The school opened with 77 students and 12 faculty. Four years after it opened the Institute saw 35 students graduate with bachelor’s degrees and one master’s degree. The first doctorate candidate graduated in 1918.
Rice Institute is located in a lovely urban area amidst plenty of trees and green space.

The University of Houston – C. T. Bauer College of Business Executive Education
The C.T. Bauer College of Business Education came to be after businessman Ted Bauer, a Harvest University alumni, donated $40 million to the University of Houston’s College of Business Administration in 2000. The college was therefore named after him. Bauer College is located on the Campus of the University of Houston. Construction on the College began on June 5, 2008.
Today the C.T. Bauer College of Business is a fully accredited school offering B.B.A., M.B.A., MS Accountancy, and MS Finance. It also has the only Ph.D. program in business administration.
It is considered one of Houston’s most comprehensive business schools, with undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. The faculty are impressive scholars who take an innovative approach to teach their students and many of them are already successful in their professional careers.
The campus is located in the center of Houston, making it easy for working professionals to secure their post-graduate studies.

The University of St. Thomas – Cameron School of Business
One of the top private Catholic universities is the University of St. Thomas (UST) – Cameron School of Business, located in Houston. The university was founded in 1947 and is the only Catholic university in the Archdiocese of Galveston and Houston. The Basilian Fathers had started several secondary schools but agreed with the bishop of the Diocese of Galveston to begin work on a secondary educational facility. The first student body began its studies on September 22, 1947, with 57 students and eight faculty. The first class of graduates accepted their degrees in May 1951.
Today, UST has a diverse student body with 61% being African-American, Hispanic, American Indian, and Asian/Pacific Islander. The university boasts students from 40 states and 54 countries. The University is currently expanding its campus and is acquiring 25 additional city blocks.

Houston Baptist University – Archie W. Dunham College of Business
Houston Baptist College first opened its doors on November 15, 1960, intending to establish a Christian College that stressed not just learning but also having a positive quality of life. Initially, the College offered Bachelor of Arts degrees in Christianity, Fine Arts, Languages, Science, Mathematics and Social Studies. In 1964 the University expanded to offer programs in Education and Psychology and added Business and Economics programs in 1966.
The University features a quiet, intimate setting located on a 100-acre campus and just minutes from bustling downtown Houston, where many students find jobs and internships.
The University concentrates on all the needs of students including academically, spiritually, and physically. They pride themselves on small classroom sizes, typically around 25 students, guaranteeing that each student gets the personal attention they desire and deserve.

University of Phoenix – Texas
There are several different locations for the University of Phoenix in the state of Texas, including a location in Houston. The school was founded in Phoenix in 1976 and offers over 100 different certificate programs as well as associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. The school
as been considered a top choice for adults that are already working and looking to elevate their career with a higher-level degree.
When the university first opened, the first class had only 8 students. Today, it offers a wide range of continuing education courses and is popular among military personnel who can choose to attend classes in person or online. Each student typically spends between 20-24 hours of personal instruction with instructors. It also encourages students to gather in teams of four to five students.
The University of Phoenix- Texas has a diverse student body with 29% white students, 21% black, 10% Hispanic, 1 % Asian, and 33% unknown.
