Our Ranking Methodology

We created a formula to rank the schools we evaluate, including the schools featured in this article. Our formula takes two important factors into account for each school: yearly tuition rate and student-to-faculty ratio. Many of the institutions on this list are public and have differing tuition rates for resident and non-resident students. For these schools, we only looked at their resident tuition rates. Our formula takes the tuition rate and multiplies it by the student-to-faculty ratio. Here’s an example of how it works: ABC College has a yearly tuition rate of $20,000 and a student-to-faculty ratio of 10:1. Its rating would be 200,000 (20,000 x 10). Lower ratings are desirable when using our formula.
