Our Ranking Methodology

To come up with these rankings, we utilized a simple formula. This formula takes two statistics from each school (yearly tuition rate and graduation rate) and turns them into a rating. Note: If a school has different rates for in-state and non-resident students, we only took the in-state tuition rate. The formula works by taking a school’s yearly tuition rate and adding a multiplier that is equal to the percentage of enrolled students who did not end up graduating. This results in the school’s rating. Here’s how it works: University 1 has a yearly tuition rate of $20,000 and a graduation rate of 50%. Its rating would be 30,000 (20,000 x 150%). A lower rating will result in a better ranking on our list.
