Methodology

To rank the best schools to receive an online Doctorate in Reading and Literacy, we used a point-based scoring system. Schools were awarded points based on two metrics. The first metric used was the cost of tuition. If the tuition cost was given as a yearly expense, this total was divided in half, assuming two semesters, and then divided by 12, taking an average of 12 credits per semester. In all cases, the out-of-state tuition cost was used in the calculation. Schools with the lowest tuition cost on a per-credit basis were given the most amount of points and a more favorable ranking on our list.

The second metric that was used to rank the best schools to earn an online Doctorate in Reading and Literacy was the overall enrollment size. Schools that had a lower enrollment received more points and thus a better ranking. It was assumed that schools with fewer students could offer a better student-to-teacher ratio, thus giving more personalized instruction. The total amount of points for the tuition score and the enrollment score were then totaled to give a final, cumulative score. The school with the most amount of points received the top ranking on our list of the best schools to earn an online Doctorate in Reading and Literacy.
