As technology advances, the demand for information systems employees increases. An MBA in Information Systems combines the best of two worlds: a solid base in business and management skills along with knowledge in information systems. This degree prepares students for careers in the management of information systems and information technology.

What Is the Difference Between an MBA in Information Systems and an MS in Information Systems?

While both programs incorporate knowledge of information systems, an MBA in Information Systems is heavy on the business side, with a few courses on information systems. The MS in Information Systems is heavy on information systems, with little or no business management courses. If you want to be an IS professional and have no aspirations for management, the MS in Information Systems is probably the best choice for you. However, if you dream of management, an MBA in Information Systems is the better choice.

What Is the Difference Between Information Systems and Information Technology?

According to Florida Tech, information systems degrees focuses on the people, processes, and technology involved with information while a information technology degree focuses more on the actual machines, hardware, and software. However, both programs are very similar in that they both deal with the handling of data and information. For the purposes of this article, we have included both information systems and information technology, along with a few other related disciplines.

Our Ranking Methodology
We gathered graduate tuition rates from each school’s website and enrollment data from Google. We used the in-state per semester tuition rates where available. Where tuition was listed per credit, we multiplied by 12 credits to get a semester cost. For annual costs, we assumed that the school year is made up of two semesters. Where applicable, the enrollment numbers are for the specific campus, not the parent-school.

After sorting first by tuition then by enrollment, we assigned points to each school, with a maximum of 50 points for tuition cost and 50 points for enrollment. We added these two scores to get a final score for ranking.
