What is a BA Degree or Bachelor of Arts degree?

A BA Degree is an undergraduate degree from a college or university that takes approximately 3 to 4 years to complete. Simply put, a BA Degree focuses on the humanities and arts while a BS Degree focuses primarily on the sciences and math. A bachelor of arts degree tends to provide students with a more expansive education with courses in the humanities, English, social sciences, and even a foreign language and with fewer credits linked directly to their major. Students usually have a lot more freedom in choosing from a variety of courses to fulfill the required credits for the degree. This allows students to customize their education to fulfill personal goals and interests. Bachelor of arts degrees is commonly offered in fields such as Humanities, art, language, English, music, and communication.

How to Choose between a BA or a BS

Students need to know what they are planning to do with their degree once they complete it. For instance, a student going into psychology needs to determine if they want to go into counseling or research with their career.

If they plan to enter the counseling side of psychology then they should earn a Bachelor of arts, whereas if they plan to research a BS degree would be more suited for their career path as they will learn more analytical and statistical skills. It is important to note that not all schools offer a BA degree and a BS degree in the same field, but when they do it is imperative to know what they plan to do with the degree to determine which is best suited for their future goals.
