Most of the first responders were trained and educated at one of the local colleges, they have been essential institutions throughout the history of America but have proven again how essential they are during the time a crisis. Colleges’ responses to COVID 19 in North Dakota have shown how much society relies on these institutions. From faculty to students many have stepped up to help fight during this global crisis.
Lake Region State College
As COVID spread quickly across the globe, medical professionals have felt the shortage of personal protective equipment even with rationing necessary items. Faculty at Lake Region State College have stepped up to design, develop and manufacture items of PPE using the 3-D printers on campus. All the items they make have been donated to healthcare facilities in the community that need it as well as long-term care facilities.
North Dakota State University
As the threat of COVID 19 approached North Dakota, North Dakota State University prepared to step up and serve in what ways they could. The University took inventory of all available PPE that could be quickly collected and donated to local healthcare facilities should the need arise. They have N95 masks, surgical masks, isolation gowns, and more that is already inventoried for donation. The institution stands ready to donate and help if and when it is needed.
Colleges’ responses to COVID 19 in North Dakota have proven the essential role they play in communities in which they are apart. These institutions have provided courses for students to ensure their well-being during uncertain times, they have selflessly donated items of PPE. Communities have benefitted greatly from the role of these unique and affordable institutions that are part of their communities.
